About CHART
Children’s Help and Assistance for Residential Treatment (CHART) was started in 2006 by Diane and Mary Ann Mulligan after a family member entered the residential treatment center (RTC) system. The family’s frustrating experience in locating educational materials about RTC’s while handling a crisis situation, locating the appropriate RTC and managing the astronomical cost, lead to the creation of this non-profit. CHART is a national non-profit organization comprised of dedicated professionals and parents who have worked with emotionally challenged, adopted children for more than 20 years.
CHART is designed to educate families about residential treatment options so that they can make informed decisions about their children’s future. While the educational component is available to anyone, only parent’s of adopted children 9-13 years old with a mental illness diagnosis who reside in Colorado and Arizona may apply for emergency scholarships. CHART hopes to expand the geographic reach of the scholarship program in the near future.
CHART has four goals:
- Provide information to aid parents in choosing an appropriate RTC that meets the child’s individual needs
- Fund up to 3 months of RTC tuition through scholarships
- Provide information on state and local funding programs that help manage RTC expenses
- Provide personal/family fiscal education
